Undercover Word is a social deduction party game where players try to identify the imposter among them. Think of it as a word-based version of games like Among Us or Werewolf – but playable instantly in your browser with no downloads.
Perfect for 4-10 players, Undercover Word works great for parties, family gatherings, game nights, or any time you want a quick, engaging game that everyone can play on their phones.
Objective of the Game
🛡️ Operatives Win By:
Finding and eliminating the Mole through voting before they can blend in completely.
🕵️ Mole Wins By:
Surviving until only 2 players remain, or correctly guessing the Operative word when eliminated.
The Roles
Operative (Majority)
Most players are Operatives. They all receive the same secret word. Their goal is to identify who has a different word without revealing their own word to the Mole.
Mole (1-2 players)
The Mole player(s) receive a similar but different word. For example, if Operatives have "Coffee," the Mole might have "Tea." They must blend in by giving clues that could apply to either word.
How a Round Works
- 1
Create or Join a Game
One player creates a game and shares the room code or QR code. Everyone else joins on their phones – no app needed!
- 2
Receive Your Secret Word
Each player privately sees their word on their device. Keep it secret! You won't know if you're an Operative or the Mole.
- 3
Give Clues
Players take turns giving one-word clues about their word. Be clever: too specific reveals your word to the Mole, too vague makes you look suspicious!
- 4
Discuss & Vote
After clues, discuss who seems suspicious. Then everyone votes on who to eliminate. The player with the most votes is out!
- 5
Repeat Until Someone Wins
If the Mole is eliminated, Operatives are closer to winning. If an Operative is eliminated, the Mole gets closer to victory!
How Voting Works
- •Everyone votes at the same time on their device
- •You cannot vote for yourself
- •The player with the most votes is eliminated
- •In case of a tie, both players are eliminated (or another round begins, depending on settings)
- •Eliminated players can still watch but cannot give clues or vote
Tips & Strategies
For Operatives
- • Give clues that confirm you know the exact word
- • Watch for clues that seem "off" or too generic
- • Pay attention to body language and hesitation
- • Don't give away too much – the Mole is listening!
For the Mole
- • Give clues that could apply to both words
- • Listen carefully to deduce the Operative word
- • Act confident – hesitation looks suspicious
- • Deflect suspicion onto other players
